Eric loves to make things - whether in the kitchen, the garage or in his 'little corner of the world' ~ he loves to keep busy with his hands.  Eric has never taken a course but has a natural talent and whether he works with wood, metal or other materials he chooses, the results are always the same ~ 'one of a kind' 'works of art'.

Often we will find old pieces of driftwood or see someone cutting a tree down on their property and we will ask for a couple of pieces of it so that he can carve.  We do not usually collect big pieces of wood, just what we can carry and he can use.

When Eric makes his wood sculptures he looks for what 'lives inside the wood', whether it is a tree spirit, a snake, a wood nymph, a dragon, an alien, or a troll ~ he gives it form and brings it to life.  He has made many a creative use out of a few pieces of wood and has enchanted many with his creations.  When he is stumped for an idea [not too often I assure you] he will on that rare occassion come to me and I will give him some ideas.  Eric has also used the ideas and suggestions from others for carvings and even done a few pieces on consignment.  Seeing what lives in the wood requires imagination and is the same as seeing what is in the clouds. What do you see when you look up?? Just sky and clouds?  Or do you see the shapes and stories just waiting to be told?  Do the fluffy clouds have a tale to tell you as they drift by or are you too enmeshed in the physical with no time to relax.  Next time you see a cloud ~ see if you can tell what it hides within. Look at the world with eyes that see with the wonder of a child and find the 'hidden' secrets to a happier life and more enjoyment.

All of Eric's carvings are a one of a kind and he does not use molds.  He does each one by hand in painstaking detail and though he may copy an idea ~ no two are identical because they are all individually hand carved.   Because of the care he takes carving and the many sanding sessions his wood carvings often look like they are made in metal, gold, brass or glass but let me assure you Eric does not use molds or plastic and these are each made of wood.  The bone carvings are also unique and one of a kind as is his metal work.

Eric has an Indian blood brother in a Huron tribe just outside of Toronto in Alliston, Ontario.

Eric has passed over to a more peaceful place.
